Unless the Lord build the house, they labor in vain who build. Unless the Lord guard the city, in vain does the guard keep watch. It is vain for you to rise early and put off your rest at night, to eat bread earned by hard toil—all this God gives to his beloved in sleep.
Prayer
O Lord, we have pushed our humanity to the limits. We have pushed our intellect, our passions, our freedom, and our sanity to the brink, in our desire to live a life which we think is the only one that exists. I know now, my dearest, that there is a better life, a more beautiful life that lasts forever. Keep me in peace. Amen.
